When you make your reservation, be sure to let us know about the dog(s) who will accompany you so we can reserve the appropriate lodging and have all the pet necessities ready for both of your comfort at our pet-friendly Maine Beach Resort.
It is our goal that all guests, both human and canine, have the most enjoyable experience possible at Inn by the Sea. In order to help us meet that goal, we ask that you please inquire about our pet-friendly policies if you are considering travel with your fine furry friend. The State Park does not permit pets on Crescent Beach from April 1 – September 30 (dates are subject to change). Please note that dogs must be on a leash.
Dog Day
Dog Days at the Inn include canine-friendly amenities and over-the-top pampering for both traveling pets and their human companions. One of the first pet-friendly luxury beach resorts in Portland Maine, Inn by the Sea has welcomed man’s best friend for over 20 years with complimentary accommodations, water bowls, beach towels, cozy blankets, and signature treats at turndown.
Gourmet pet menus are available for your doggie divas with advanced reservations. The Inn also provides a comprehensive list of nearby walking trails, pet-friendly beaches and free-range parks you’ll both enjoy at our Pet-Friendly Maine Beach Resort.

Inn by the Sea celebrates a multi-year collaboration fostering shelter dogs for the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland at their seaside resort.
Guests visit Inn by the Sea to enjoy a relaxing beach vacation in a beautiful natural setting. But some guests return home with a wonderful new friend- a rescue dog. The Inn has worked in collaboration with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland for four years to help save lives and fosters shelter dogs at their seaside resort. To date, 154 dogs have been adopted and moved onto loving homes after finding temporary shelter at the Inn.
Inn by the Sea has been welcoming dogs and their owners with over the top pampering for almost 30 years, so it was a natural transition for the Inn, as a green hotel, to support a community organization that was working to save dogs’ lives.
Visitors love being welcomed by the friendly shelter pup in the lobby. The staff walk, feed, care and love the dogs -usually about 45 dogs each year are given a temporary home at the Inn. Guests are welcome to walk and play with the foster dogs and happily, many guests fall in love and adopt. Inn staff love the program and feel fortunate that many of the adopted dogs return with their new families to enjoy a meal or vacation and they are able to reconnect with the pups and catch up on old friendships!
