Pampering for high fliers – Inn by the Sea is certified as a Butterfly Waystation

The Eco Friendly Inn by the Sea on the Maine Coast makes the comfort of their guests, which includes the endangered Monarch Butterfly, a priority.

Crescent Beach, Cape Elizabeth Maine, June 2009…..An inviting beach resort for both butterflies and people, Inn by the Sea on the coast of Maine is now a certified Monarch Waystation offering butterflies and the more traditional two legged guest alike, freshly renovated seaside accommodations and delectable local fare. Inn by the Sea makes the comfort of their guests, which includes the endangered Monarch, a priority.

While a  recent multi million-dollar renovation added luxurious amenities and an ocean view Restaurant featuring  local cuisine to Maine’s premier  beach resort for people- Butterflies also benefit from new accommodations and fresh local fare. An array of blooming nectar plants, milkweed and butterfly house have all been added to the inn’s indigenous gardens. Monarch Watch, which registers properties that provide food and shelter for the endangered Monarch as they migrate though North America, certified the inn as a Butterfly Waystation,

Celebrating all things Maine, including preservation of the Monarch, is very much a part of the guest experience at Inn by the Sea. Summer programs for kids commemorate the seaside location adjacent to a bird sanctuary with “Bug’s Life” classes where children create their own bug costumes and learn about eco systems from a bug’s viewpoint. Adults enjoy garden seminars on “How to Plant for Wildlife”- learning how to plant beautiful gardens that also create food sources and habitat for wildlife.

Located on a mile of unspoiled beach and adjacent to a bird sanctuary, the eco friendly inn has long had a relationship with butterflies- the  gardens are a bloom with Monarchs in summer and fall, and the inn’s sheet and towel program donates savings to environmental programs that help protect endangered butterflies.

“Inn by the Sea is delighted to be registered as a Monarch Waystation, as it underscores our commitment to the environment in such an enchanting way,” said Masterson. “Monarchs are frequent and welcome guests, and epitomize our unique approach to hospitality.  We are committed to outstanding hospitality, environmental preservation and an appreciation of all things local.”

Inn by the Sea’s tagline, luxury comes naturally aptly describes the inns relaxed coastal charm and eco friendly hospitality approach inspired by their coastal surroundings. The ocean view Sea Glass restaurant serves food fresh from nearby farms and the sea. The Spa, the first in Maine to be built to Leeds specifications, pampers guests with natural marine based product and treatments that give a nod to Casco Bay. Guests are warmed with biofuel and solar panels, and wrapped in cozy bamboo towels; the cardio room has recycled rubber floors, while treatment rooms are made from recycled cork and sheet rock.
